about

Iver Rivers, renowned as one half of the dynamic producer-artist duo Riverays, embarks on a thrilling solo journey with the release of his debut single, “King Jaja,” under the esteemed record London-Johannesburg label Outer South.

Known for his boundless creativity and experimental approach to music, Iver Rivers brings forth a captivating fusion of genres and influences in his solo endeavors. Drawing inspiration from a diverse spectrum of artists ranging from Kanye West and Wande Coal to Jpegmafia and Burna Boy, Rivers refuses to confine himself to a singular style, opting instead to weave a tapestry of sonic innovation.

“King Jaja” showcases Rivers’ distinctive sound, blending local Igbo chants, soulful chords, and southern African rhythms to create an immersive backdrop for his introspective lyrics. The track pays homage to King Jaja of Opobo, a revered figure in southern Nigerian history, embodying themes of determination and resilience in the face of adversity.

Produced and penned by Iver Rivers himself, King Jaja is the culmination of his foray into African music, marked by gospel-infused harmonies and eclectic drum patterns. The song’s dynamic evolution mirrors its thematic depth, with verses delving into themes of uncertainty and insecurity, juxtaposed with a chorus that invokes contemporary Nigerian culture.

Iver has also gotten support from The49th street, More branches, iMullar, Pan African music, Culture Custodian, Lucid lemons and more.

King Jaja was meticulously mixed and mastered by the acclaimed Michael Synx, whose impressive roster includes collaborations with industry titans such as Davido, Asake, Fireboy DML, and Joeboy, among others.

lyrics

Watch me
Watch me move
Like I’m kickin brand new nike shoes on concrete
Dont watch the news cuz it make me question when you say you love me
What to do when the price too costly
Dont know what it’ll cost me
Taking it suffri suffri
Watch me
Make a wish
Wish i can
help you see whats important
Soon as i know it for myself
White diamonds on these onye ocha
They say we’ll cut you something big
If you sow a seed
Go go go nothing happening here oh mon ami
Row your boat cuz they
Waiting to hear you’re lost at sea
Drop ten on a parlay maybe we win a jeep
King jaja afi use any means for real
Hit me deep when i told em where it hurts
Ten toes two feet dancing in the dirt
Could you believe we imagined it would work
Shalewa, any where you are

Birds of a feather they aint flying too far
What i need when I’m medicated
What i need to be dedicated
Sheke
Baby dont need lie
You havent seen nothin like this in real life
When I’m on shekpe
Treat it like tea
life
Is one by one shut your mouth and let us decide
Came a long
Many many nights
Right be side me, One i know i will not deny me
what I’m on
You know My many fights dont define me
swear my momma made me like this
Go go go nothing happening here oh mon ami
Row your boat cuz they
Waiting to hear you’re lost at sea
Drop ten on a parlay maybe we win a jeep
King jaja afi use any means for real
